CANCELLED...

Cold temps predicted and even colder 'feels like' temps so I feel it is best to cancel.  I will try to do this ride on January 1 and rebrand it the first day ride.

Shortest Day Ride and LUNCH.

Just 16 miles.

This ride has had many names in the past, the Longest Night Ride, and the Winter Solstice Ride come to mind. So be a Pagan for one day and help celebrate the Winter Solstice with a cool ride and lunch at the trendy Lumberville General Store and Deli. Depending on the temperature we may get to eat lunch around the outdoor fire pit.  The ride starts in Lambertville, in the parking lot by Pure Energy Cycles.  We will bike either by trail or road to Bulls Island, walk our bikes across the river to Lumberville and have lunch.  We will return by one of three routes either the PA canal path, the NJ canal path or route 29 in New Jersey.  Folks can make a game day decision as to their return route.  Those wishing to make a full day of this adventure can extend their ride, or window shop in New Hope or Lambertville.  Remember that the Triumph Brewery is just off the canal path in New Hope.  Since I am not posting a route you might want to check Google maps to familiarize yourself with the area.

The temps should be in the 30's for this ride so it will be a little chilly.  Remember, there is no such thing as poor weather, just poor clothing choices. Here are some suggestions for cold weather riding.  First Merino wool is my go to base or mid-layer (I like Minus 33 as a vendor). Merino wool doesn't itch, doesn't hold body odors and is machine washable. From the head down, a skull cap that covers your ears and fits under your helmet. Next a thinnish neck gaiter that can also cover your mouth and nose if necessary.  A Merino wool base layer on your body followed a long sleeved bike jersey and finished with a windbreaker that actually breaks the wind.  Over bike shorts wear a pair of tights.  Heavy wool socks should keep your feet warm. I have used ski mittens or ski gloves and they work well.  Pearl Izumi also makes a nice winter glove.  Costco has Head ski gloves at a reasonable price. You should feel a little chilly at the start of the ride but your internal engine will warm you up after a couple of miles.

Arrive early enough so you are ready to roll at 10 o'clock.

Helmets are Mandatory.
High Viz clothing, front/rear flashers as well as mirrors highly recommended.
