Birthday Ride 77 miles

UPDATE:  The 35-mile loop is hillier than I expected so I now plan to do that loop in the morning while we are fresh.  The 42-mile loop along Route 29 to Frenchtown now the afternoon loop.

To celebrate my birthday (guess which one) I am leading a 77-mile ride starting from my pied a terre. Since it is a long ride, I planned a route that, hopefullydoesn't have any killer hills.

The first loop is 35 miles and stays in the Amwell Valley.  This will be a little hillier than the afternoon loop, but we do stay off the plateau and the Sourlands. The second loop is 42 miles from Ringoes to Frenchtown and back.

We should arrive back at the starting point around 11:30 when we can replenish our ride drinks and snacks from our cars.  I will provide the fixings for sandwiches (lunchmeat, cheese plus peanut butter and jelly) and soft drinks for our lunch. At the end of the 77 miles, around 4 o’clock, we will enjoy birthday cake and ice cream under the spreading maple tree.  There is a possibility that beer will be available. Bring a chair, if you can, to ensure that you have a seat under the tree.

I would like the group to stay together, which is more fun and helps all the riders finish strong.  If riders want to go on their own off the front, that is OK, make sure you have the route.

Riders, not wanting such a long ride, can certainly end their day after lunch, which means there is more birthday cake for the rest of us.

You and your bike should be ready for a full day of ridingArrive early enough so that you are ready to roll at 8 o’clock.
