Ride description:
Flateau Century, 100 mile ride.
This 100 mile unsupported ride will consist of four loops around the flattish Flemington Plateau. I suggest packing a cooler with your favorite drinks and ride snacks and leaving it in you car so that when we return to the parking lot after each loop we can tailgate and rest a bit before heading out again. About half way through each loop riders will pass the Corner Store in Baptistown and can re-supply if necessary.
Riders will average 15-16 MPH. There are a couple of opportunities to shorten the ride and head back to the start if necessary.
After the ride, members will retire to the Old Croton Bar & Grill's patio and enjoy a beer or wine (the first one on the club) and order pizza or lunch off the menu (at your own expense).

Hello riders,
I will be pacing the ride to match about 80% of my heart rate maximum, or about 130 bpm. The bike shop advice I got years ago was to "Turn big" on the cranks. Than means to use your leg strength on the backstroke. This provides an even pressure on the cranks throughout the pedal stroke and depletes the strength of all the leg muscles at a more moderate rate.
When pedaling at a steady 130 bpm heart rate, make a mental note how much pressure you are exerting, and use that as an effort reference point.
The last loop of the route is about 17-18 miles distance, so if you find the century is too far for you on ride day, it is a safe bet to land at the Croton Bar & Grill for an 80 mile ride.
