Ride description:

These are self-supported rides and may be at a challenging distance for some riders. Here are some tips for the Flateau Rides

  1. Make sure your bike is in good working order, tires pumped, and that your front and rear lights are charged.

  2. Check to see if your spare (or 2) holds air, that you have tire levers, and your pump works.

  3. Plan your pre-ride breakfast which should include protein (eggs) and complex carbs (whole wheat bread, oat meal). Plan to drink about a quart of liquid at breakfast.

  4. Gather your ride food, this should be food and drink you have tried before, a long ride on a hot day is not the time to try new food and drink.

  5. Pack a cooler to leave with your car with food and drink so you can replenish your ride supplies. The century will return to the cars three times and the 60 and 53 will return to the cars once during the ride. This is a chance to rest a bit and tailgate with you cooler goodies. A simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich on whole wheat is a good rest stop food.

  6. During the ride, cyclist should eat and drink every 15-20 minutes. Cyclist should finish a bottle every hour.

  7. Before the ride you might want to open your energy bar wrappers to make it easier when you are eating while pedaling.

  8. There are convenience stores about every 15 miles, bring money.
