Kingwood Park Century (or 25, 50, 75 miles) (10/03/2026)

Kingwood Park Century

This is a self-supported ride.

The park has parking, bathrooms, water, and picnic tables. The route stays on the plateau and has few hills, it returns us to the park every 25 miles so that we can make use of the facilities, replenish our ride supplies (food, water, electrolytes), and rest.

At the 50 mile mark, riders will take a longer break and have a tailgate picnic lunch. Pack your cooler with all your favorite food and drink. Bring a

Kingwood Park Century 101 miles

Plan to stay for a while after the ride, and with the other members, swap lies recounting how well you rode. An adult beverage or two would be appropriate.

Some more information that may be useful:

Members do not have to complete all four loops, you can do 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles.

There are no stores on the route, bring all the supplies you need. You can leave stuff in your car and replenish supplies every 25 miles.

You and your bike should be in good shape for a full day of riding. A clean drive train does wonders.

There are a limited number of roads on the plateau so we do see some of the roads a few times. I kept the route on the plateau to keep the number of hills to a minimum.

The route passes Gabby’s Cafe and the ice cream window several times.

I expect that there will be a wide range of ability among the riders and because this is an all day ride, I expect that folks will naturally break up into smaller groups. Therefore, riders should have the route downloaded to their GPS device and be able to navigate the route themselves. A cue sheet wouldn’t hurt either. The route is NOT marked on the road.

The four RWGPS routes, 25 miles each, are posted and are to be ridden in numerical order. Click on the correct link to access the route at the start of each loop.

There are many bailout opportunities during the ride in case you get done in. In general, if you go west on Route 12 to Route 519 in Kingwood you are within a mile of Kingwood Park. Before the ride, look at a map and familiarize yourself with the area.

The day of the ride is not the time to test out new food, drink or bike stuff. Do all your testing well before the ride. This is a long ride, bikers should eat and drink every 20 minutes or so throughout the ride, don’t let yourself get depleted.

While testing ride food, try some ‘real food’ instead of a pre-packaged bar. Fruit or a PB&J sandwich is a nice switch up.

Bring the necessary tools and tubes to change a flat. If this is a mystery to you, look on You Tube for inspiration. Practice changing a flat at home.

This is a long ride, pace yourself. Take a break halfway through each loop, on Sam Levine Road, get off the bike and eat and drink something.

Held each year on a beautiful Sunday with the gorgeous fall colors shouting out, the CBR, as our members call it, is our best event ever.

You have five great routes to choose from -- the family-friendly 20 or 30 mile route (uses the towpath along the Delaware river, which is a fine-cinder and hardpacked dirt trail, for part of these routes), or the hillier 35, 55 or 65 mile rides (all on paved roads) -- plus plenty of great food. Travel through up to six historic covered bridges. Fatter tired bikes work best on the cinder-based paths for the 20 or 30 mile route

Lehigh Gorge State Park, Jim Thorpe, PA

NOTE: DATE CHANGE TO OCTOBER 14 TO AVOID THE BUSY COLUMBUS DAY HOLIDAY.

This all day Fall adventure starts in Jim Thorpe, PA. Bikers will ride on the rails to trails route along the Lehigh River to White Haven where we will have lunch at a pizza/sandwich place before retracing our route back to our cars. If you have never done this ride or if it has been awhile, you owe it to yourself to do it. After the ride, there should be time and energy to enjoy the town of Jim Thorpe, have a beer and maybe dinner.

If you are still working, this would be an excellent time to take a mental health day.

Some more information

**Wear your Hi Viz club jersey if you can. We want to look cool.

**Check Google maps for travel times to Jim Thorpe. Glen Onoko Access Loop is the ride start location that you can put in your mapping app. (about 2 hours)

**There are a couple of parking areas on the right hand side of the Park access road, park in the last one.

**Arrive early enough so that you can unload your bike, use the facilities and be ready to go a little before 9. There might be donuts and a bit of a travelogue before we start.

**There should be facilities at the start, also, about halfway to White Haven and, of course, at the pizza place.

**The trail surface is similar to the D & R canal trail here in Hunterdon Co. I think a hybrid bike would be ideal, but a road bike would also be OK. Wider tires are better than narrower tires.

**There is a 2% up grade to White Haven, the return trip is all down hill.

**E-bikes are allowed.

**This is a sightseeing ride, there are a couple of waterfalls and other Kodak moments.

**There are no stores along the route until White Haven, so have your water and ride snacks on the bike.

**Have money for lunch

**You probably will want to have a change of clothes and walking shoes for after the ride.

**This is COAL COUNTRY, read up on the Molly Maguires. Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe) was a part of this 1860s-1870s labor conflict. There is an excellent 1970 movie called Molly Maguires w/Sean Connery.
